Faculty and Staff
Maritza was born and raised in Venezuela, the daughter of Italian immigrants. She and her family moved to the United States in 1997. In Venezuela, Martiza worked in business administration; however when she relocated to the US, she found employment in a school. This is when she realized she really enjoyed working with children and had a talent for it.
Martiza is an AMS-certified Montessori teacher who loves her students and is grateful for all they teach her. She has been with TBS Montessori since its commencement, and is trilingual in English, Spanish and Italian. She instructs the children in Spanish. Daisy Paez
Originally from Caracas, Venezuela, Daisy moved to South Florida in 2000 with her family, her husband and two kids. As everyone who has met her knows, Daisy loves to be with children. This love motivated her to enroll in college to pursue a degree in Special Education and Learning Disabilities. She graduated in Venezuela in 1999.
From 2001-2004 she worked in a school in Weston. Daisy became a certified Montessori teacher and joined TBS Montessori when it opened its doors in 2004.
Daisy loves spending time with the children and getting to know them, "I like to see how they progress and learn throughout the year."Daisy teaches the children in Spanish.
Huilen was born and raised in Argentina. She is an certified Montessori teacher, who began teaching at TBS Montessori in 2006. Huilen is a gentle spirit who puts children at ease and has a calming affect in the classroom. Huilen's daughter also attends TBS Montessori. She is fully trained in the Montessori program and co-teaches with Daisy Paez. Lila Villanueva
Originally from Monteria, Colombia, Lila was educated in Bogota, Europe, and in the United States at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where she studied English. She also received a degree in Nursing from St. Clair Community College. Although Lila was a licensed nurse practitioner, she never worked as a nurse.
Lila realized her calling was in the classroom and not on a hospital floor, and started working at the school as an assistant. This apprenticeship continued for 21 years, the duration of Lila's teaching career. Lila is an certified Montessori teacher, and she is fluent in both Spanish and English.
Lila is known for her organizational skills (leftover from her boarding school days) and the careful attention she pays to washing little hands and noses, and preventing the spread of viral infections (from her days studying nursing). When she's not organizing her classroom or helping her students stay healthy, she loves playing pretend with the children and nurturing their imaginations.
Nancy grew up in a small town called Louiseville, in Quebec, Canada, which is located about one hour outside Montreal, Canada. She arrived in Miami in 2004. Nancy earned her degree from the University of Quebec in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, Canada. Before relocating to Miami Beach, Nancy, an AMS-certified Montessori teacher, taught at the Hillside Montessori School in Toronto, Canada.
Nancy loves teaching the children. In her words: "My favorite part of being a teacher is spending most of my day with the bright and curious students in our school. It is a blessing for me to see the world through their eyes -- where everything is simple and witnessing their joy when they learn something new."
Nancy is bilingual in French and English, and teaches the after-school cooking classes. Angela Durand
Angie was born at the Naval Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. She has a strong background in early childhood education and elementary education. She has an AMS Montessori Certification. She first started working with children in 1982 at the Miami 3C school where she worked for 4 years. She then ran her own home preschool called Angie's Preschool and Day Care for 3 years. She worked at various Montessori schools such as the Windhold Montessori School, Children's House, Pizarro Montessori and Kendall Montessori for 10 years where she met Lila Villanueva.
Angie became a reading specialist. She is very happy to be reunited with her old colleague once again.
Susy was born in Peru and studied at the Universidad Catolica del Peru as a librarian. She worked as a librarian at the Colegios Catolicos del Peru. Susy moved to Miami with her family in 2003. She worked for Caridades Catolicas de Miami, Boys town Immigration services for four years. She studied at Miami Dade College in 2011 for her Florida childcare professional credential (birth-five). In 2012, she studied at the Montessori Teacher Training Institute where she graduated with an American Montessori Society Early Childhood credential in 2013. She loves working at Temple Beth Shmuel Montessori School since 2010.
Mirelys graduated Magna Cum Laude from Florida International University in 2011 with a Bachelors in Elementary Education with ESOL Endorsement. She holds a Florida Educator's Certificate for grades K-6. She did her internship in Kinloch Park Elementary where she worked as a 2nd grade teacher. Upon completion of her internship she began working as a teacher's assistant in Alexander Montessori School. In 2012, she studied in the Montessori Teacher Training Institute where she graduated with an American Montessori Society Early Childhood Credential in 2013. She worked in Gables Montessori School as a Montessori Directress until 2014 and is now working in Temple Beth Shmuel's Montessori School.
Elizabeth was born and raised in Annapolis, Maryland. She holds a Bachelor's of Science in Early Childhood Education and Development. She has been teacher for over 15 years, including two years in an international school in Brazil. Currently, she is doing her coursework to become a certified infant and toddler Montessori teacher. Elizabeth also works in a psychology center and teaches Art, Architecture, and Creative Writing in North Beach Elementary School's enrichment program.
